Homework Expectations

Homework

Students will write their homework daily in their planner.   It is their responsibility to write it down, HOWEVER, I will provide a specific time and many reminders to help students remember.   I will also remind them to pack their planner in their backpack daily.

Daily Homework - Homework is due the following day after it is assigned (this is different from 3rd grade where homework was due weekly)

1)  Spelling (see monthly notebook contract).  We will alternate spelling one week, then grammar the next, then back to spelling again.  Spelling and grammar assignments are due daily.
2) Free reading!!   Our goal is to read 25 books (of multiple genres) by the end of the school year!!!  We have a wall designated for a chart that is tracking our progress.

3) Other miscellaneous homework will be noted in the planner.

** Students are responsible for writing down homework assignments.   They will be reminded daily to write homework in their planner.  Planners will be checked every morning for parent signature. (3 blacktop laps ("owe me") for missing parent initials, for not having a planner, or for students forgetting to write down homework).

We keep almost all graded work in their notebooks or folders.   Periodically, I will have students take home their notebooks to show you their work and grades.    Please email or write me a note in the planner if you have any questions about graded assignments.  I highly suggest that you look at your child's work if you have questions about grades.  Seeing their work really explains grades earned.  If you're confused about a grade, don't be afraid to let me know.  I try to respond to parent emails within a 24 hour time period.  Also, please understand that I literally grade about 4,000 assignments a year, and I am bound to make a mistake here and there.    :)
